Generational Accounts
Generational Accounting (GA) is a framework for the analysis of the sustainability of fiscal policy and intergenerational redistribution through the fiscal policies. The working group for GA has two purposes: (1) training on GA computing; and (2) discussion on research topics on GA.
(1) Training on GA computing
I will be giving a lecture on the concept of GA and hand-on sessions for the participants who want to compute GA for their own countries. I will be also talking about the results of GA for Korea and some other countries and their implications. I will highly appreciate for the participations of the GA researchers, who can share their experience in GA calculation and analyses of fiscal policies using GA.
(2) Discussion on research topics on GA
I would like to share the research interests with GA researchers. The topics I would like to talk about include: (i) International comparison of generational accounting; (ii) The government’s responses to the global financial crisis since 2007, and their effects on fiscal sustainability; and (iii) applications of GA such as crowding-out of private saving due to public pension, macroeconomic effects of intergenerational transfer through fiscal policies, and optimal tax burden. Discussion of other research topics is warmly welcomed.
Those who want to participate in the working group, please send a message as soon as possible to Young Jun Chun.
